Musings: Looking for the lightbulb

For anyone trying to lose weight, I would almost put money on the fact that there was one instant that made them decide, enough is enough, something has to change.

Looking for the lightbulb
For me, I like to call this my lightbulb moment. (Please tell me you all picture Gru from Despicable Me going ‘lightbulb’ as you read that line?)

The most annoying thing about my ‘lightbulb’ moment is that it happens sporadically, and is often different each time.

There’s something about this ‘lightbulb’ moment too that means I can’t actually seek it out, I just have to wait for it to come to me.

I wish more than anything that I could just flick a switch and have it turn on automatically. My life would be so much simpler if I could.

Although, let’s be real, if I could turn it on, I would never turn it off. And when I think of it that way, there’s often another lightbulb moment that occurs when I turn it off.

I’ve just had a little lightbulb moment, which has inspired me to start typing (let’s hope it’s lasted long enough to still be relevant when this blog goes up, lolz) and it really is like a light has been switched on in my brain.

Things seem a lot clearer now.

I don’t want to eat crap. I want to feel better in myself. I want to treat my body better.

But why can’t I feel like this all the time?

Obviously, that’s the million dollar question which I’d totes be sharing if I had it.

Instead, I thought I’d share with you the things that tend to be my lightbulb moment:

- Feeling sick from eating too much crap.

- Seeing a picture of myself, either looking slimmer or a current one.

- Catching my reflection in an unsuspecting mirror.

- Trying to get into clothes that once fit.

- Going on a shopping trip and nothing fitting.

- Trying to fit into a small space or chair.

- Seeing someone else’s progress.

Now it’s your turn. What tends to be your lightbulb moment?

  1. Yeah that's so right. It happens often. But for the serious weight loss we have to be determined and should not lie to our own self.
